Favorite School Story: When we were in the 10th grade (Fall 1960), the Pirates we’re playing the Yankees in an afternoon game — the final one in the World Series. A lot of our classmates had brought little transistor radios to school and were trying to listen to the game during class. My English teacher (can’t renember her name, strict, Irish) got furious, demanded that all transistor radios be turned over to her, and that the entire class come back to her room for an hour of detention at the end of the day. We were bummed because the game was still going on at 3:30 pm. Then suddenly the loud speakers came on all over the school. The Principal was broadcasting the game and there was nothing our angry English teacher could do about it. A great cheer went up from our detention room. A “mighty cheer” as we celebrated that awesome win for the Pirates. (P.S. My husband was born/raised in NYC and is a dyed-in-tge-Wool Yankees fan. 😟)

Bertie !!! I hope that your birthday was filled with love and favorite friends and family members! I remember so appreciatively that you came to my fathers memorial service in Mt. Lebanon some years ago. You were so thoughtful to do that. I hope that you are well and enjoying retirement ?

Ann! Happy Birthday a bit early. I’m writing now because our entire boatload of grown kids, spouses and grandkids will descend on our lake house on August 2nd and I’ll probably not have any personal time for ten days. Hope your birthday is celebrated in joy, love and health.

Would you like to have a 1987 hard-top convertible Mercedes coupe for a bargain price? My son bought it a year ago and can’t afford it. ??

David! Great to hear your story. So sad that you lost your wife at age 35 but I bet you’ve been an AWESOME single dad! Bravo for you. And congratulations on your grown children’s accomplishments plus grand children. Hopefully life is good now.
